How to Remove Performance Optimizer Malware

Performance Optimizer is a fake anti-spyware program that spreads over the Internet via Trojan viruses. It generates fake system messages and alerts warning you of viruses and spyware on your computer. Then it suggests you buy the Performance Optimizer and use it to eliminate the threats. However, the only infection on your computer is Performance Optimizer itself and all of the messages are fake. Luckily, it can be removed.

End System Process

  • Press \"Ctrl,\" \"Shift\" and \"Esc\" keys at the same time to bring up the Task Manager.

  • Click on the \"Processes\" tab and then on \"PerfOpt.exe.\"

  • Click \"End Process\" and close the window.

Delete Registry Entries

  • Go to the \"Start\" menu and select \"Run.\"

  • Type \"regedit\" and hit \"Enter\" to bring up the Registry Editor.

  • Find and delete these entries:

    HKEY_USERS\Software\Performanceoptimizer
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
    \CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Performance Optimizer (Trial version)
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Performanceoptimizer

  • Close the window.

Delete Files and Folders

  • Go to the \"Start\" menu, select \"Search,\" check the \"All Files and Folders\" option and select the hard drive from the drop-down menu.

  • Type \"PerfOpt.exe\" and hit \"Enter.\" Delete all of the search results.

  • Repeat the search for \"Performance Optimizer Home Page.URL,\" \"PoChk.exe,\" \"ReadMe.doc,\" \"Sellmosoft Home Page.URL,\" \"sload.sbd,\" \"Documentation.lnk,\" \"ReadMe.doc.lnk,\" \"Performance Optimizer Home Page.lnk,\" \"Performance Optimizer.lnk,\" \"Sellmosoft Home Page.lnk,\" \"Uninstall Performance Optimizer.lnk,\" \"creader.exe,\" \"inst.imd,\" \"pcid.exe,\" \"PerfOpt.chm,\" \"data001.reg,\" \"data003.reg,\" \"data006.reg,\" \"data007.reg,\" \"data009.reg,\" \"data011.reg,\" \"data013.reg,\" \"data016.reg,\" \"data017.reg,\" \"data020.reg,\" \"data023.reg,\" \"data027.reg,\" \"data030.reg,\" \"data031.reg,\" \"data033.reg,\" \"data040.reg,\" \"data042.reg\" and \"uninstpo.exe.\"

  • Restart your computer.
