How to Add More Memory to an XBox

The Xbox 360 gaming console, developed by Microsoft, has multiple features such as wireless controllers, high definition and Xbox Live. Another feature of the console is the removable hard drive, which connects externally to the side of the Xbox 360. The hard drive easily disconnects from the console, allowing gamers to transfer data and media between other Xbox 360s. Upgrading the size of a hard drive is also a simple process, allowing gamers to upgrade space requirements from the standard 20 GB version (as of 2010).

Things You'll Need

  • Xbox 360 hard drive
  • Turn off your console by pressing the power button.

  • Locate your hard drive, situated on the narrow side of the Xbox 360 closest to the disc tray.

  • Press the button on the hard drive and pull the hard drive from the console.

  • Line up your new hard drive with the hard drive bay. There is a plug-in positioned on the narrow side of the hard drive that plugs into the only output in the hard drive bay. This is the side of the hard drive that must be connected first.

  • Push down on the thin side of the hard drive until it secures to the hard drive bay.

  • Push down on the larger side until it clicks.
