How to Find a MAC Address on an HP Laptop

Found This Helpful

For those of us who aren't very tech-savvy, it's possible for computer lingo to be a little bit confusing. If you happen to be in the position of needing to find specific identification numbers of your HP (Hewlett-Packard) laptop, you may not even know where to begin. For example, your HP's MAC (Media Access Control) address is a 12-digit identification number the manufacturer assigns to your network adapter. Even though this is all very technical, finding the address on your HP is a relatively quick and easy process.

Instructions

  1. Access the main desktop window on your HP laptop and click on "Start" in the menu bar. This is located on the bottom left corner of your computer's desktop screen.

  2. Select "Run" or "Start Search" (depending on your version of Windows) from the list of options in the menu.

  3. Type "CMD" into the dialog box and press the "Enter" key. Wait for the DOS window, otherwise known as a command prompt window, to appear on the screen.

  4. Type "IPCONFIG/ALL" when prompted by the computer and press the "Enter" key. A display window will appear on the screen listing the configuration of all the network adapters on your HP laptop.

  5. Locate the heading "Ethernet Adapter Wireless Internet Connection" in the display window. Under this heading you will see your 12-digit MAC address. It may also be labeled as "Physical Address."

  6. To exit the display window, type "Exit" at the command prompt and hit the "Enter" key.
