Plastic containers can sometimes smell. After a lot of heavy use they can develop odors, or they can simply smell of new plastic when you first buy them. It's important to get rid of smells in plastic containers, because they might be a sign that there is bacteria or other organic matter growing on the plastic. Luckily, there is a simple process for removing most smells from plastic.
Things You'll Need
- White vinegar
- Baking soda
Put the plastic container in a larger container that's big enough to hold it, as well as enough water to soak it completely.
Pour 1/2 cup of vinegar for every 2 parts water into the larger container. Fill this until you've completely covered the smelly plastic with water and vinegar.
Add 1 tsp. baking soda for every 1/2 cup of vinegar that you added to the solution.
Let the plastic soak in this solution for two days. Wash thoroughly and dry. The smell should now be gone.
