How to Close All Open Applications in a BlackBerry


As useful as your BlackBerry phone applications may be, they each take up memory space to function. Having too many open applications on your BlackBerry phone can significantly slow down its processing speed. If you are experience a sluggish BlackBerry, you should consider closing the open applications to increase memory space. There are two ways to do this: the alt/back Shortcut and the battery pull.

Alt/Back Shortcut

  • Press the "Alt" button and the "Back" button simultaneously to open a hidden menu that shows all the open BlackBerry applications on your phone. Release the "Back" button while keeping the "Alt" button pressed.

  • Use the trackball to scroll through the hidden menu of BlackBerry applications. Click on the one you would like to close.

  • Press the "Menu" button. Click “Close.”

  • Repeat Steps 1 through 3 until all of the BlackBerry applications is closed.

Battery Pull

  • Remove the back panel from your BlackBerry phone.

  • Remove the battery.

  • Replace the battery and battery panel after 10 to 15 seconds. All of your BlackBerry phone applications are now closed. Only the essential ones, such as Phone, Messages and Home Screen, will automatically start when you restart your BlackBerry phone.
