How to Create 3D Text in Maya

Save

Maya is the world's top 3D Modeling and Animation software. It is a wonderfully complicated piece of software that allows you to create extremely complex 3D models and animation. However, if you know what buttons to click, modeling 3D text is surprisingly quick and easy. At the end of this tutorial, each letter of your desired text will be its own 3D polygon that can then be manipulated in any way you'd like (you can move it around, rotate it, scale it larger or smaller, etc).

  • Open Maya by going to "Start," "Programs," "Autodesk," "Maya."

  • In the top menu, click "Create," and then click the "Text" options box.

  • In the "Text Curves Options" window, type the text you'd like to make 3D into the text-box next to "Text."

  • Next to "Type:" click the "Bevel" box. Leave all the other settings as is, and click "Create." Your text will show up in the middle of the view-finder with each letter as its own 3D polygon.
