How to Enable a Remote Desktop Connection in Windows XP
Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop is an application that allows you to remotely control other computers on the network. You can also use the Remote Desktop software to remotely control other computers over the Internet. However, before you can use it on a server, the connection needs to be enabled by the administrator of the machine. You can enable the Remote Desktop connect using the Properties window for the computer.

Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Control Panel." Double-click the "System" icon located in the Control Panel. This opens the system configuration window.

Click the "Remote" tab. Within this tab, check the box labeled "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer," and press the "OK" button.

Double-click the "Security Center" icon in the Control Panel. Click the "Windows Firewall" link to configure the operating system's firewall software. This is needed so that the firewall does not block incoming Remote Desktop requests.

Remove the check mark labeled "Don't allow exceptions." Click the "Exceptions" tab. Within this tab, check the box labeled "Remote Desktop." Press the "OK" button. The Remote Desktop session connections are now enabled.
