How to Find a Cell Provider Based on a Cell Phone Number

Determining which company provides service for a cell phone is an easy process. It essentially requires performing a reverse phone number look-up in an online directory. You can also try just doing a Web search with the phone number itself and see what information it yields.

Instructions

  1. Finding a Cell Phone Provider With a Cell Phone Number

    • 1

Visit WhoCalled.us and enter the phone number. The website not only tells you the cell phone provider, but also the date the number was established as well as the city and state in which it was created.

    • 2

Enter the phone number into the search box at PhoneNumbers.Addresses.com. The website provides the same information as WhoCalled.us, along with the ZIP code of the city where the number was established.

    • 3

Use the Reverse Lookup for telephone numbers on WhitePage.com. When the results of the search come up, click on the link that says "We have the carrier for this cell phone" to determine the provider.

    • 4

Visit FoneFinder.net and enter the first seven digits of the phone number in "Area Code Prefix -- 7th Digit" box. You can find the provider and what type of service it offers, the city and state where the number was set up and a link to the U.S. Census page under the header called "Map Link."

Tips & Warnings

  • Do a couple of searches on the number since the provider may have changed since the person established their number. For example, AT&T announced its takeover of Cingular Wireless in 2004, so if the account was opened with Cingular in 2001, one search may yield the phone is still with Cingular, while the other could say Verizon. If you get two different answers, you can still verify which carrier has the number by calling the two carriers' customer service numbers.
