How to Make Your Own Fire Badge Pattern

If your child dreams of growing up to be a firefighter, then consider making a firefighter-friendly pattern. Your child can use this template to make his or her own custom fire badge. After your child decorates the badge, you can attach it to a pin clasp for her to wear on her shirt or jacket. Let your child use creativity, and reach outside the bounds of what a real badge looks like. Just keep the shape and general design the same.

Instructions

    • 1

Go online and print out a fire badge. You can access a template example, as well as an image of a real "fire badge", to get an idea of the look and shape. After printing, cut out the badge with a pair of scissors.

    • 2

Flatten an empty cereal box and turn it inside out. You need a sturdy backing for your fire badge so that it holds up as your child wears it throughout the day. Place your paper template on the inside of the flattened box, and trace it with a pencil. Cut it out with a pair of scissors.

    • 3

Use a sheet of red card stock and trace the paper template, cut it out with a pair of scissors. Slick one side with a glue stick and press it onto the face of the cardboard badge you cut from the cereal box.

    • 4

Embellish your red fire badge. Be creative. Use a gold paint pen to draw lines or write "Fire Chief" on the badge. Use a photo of a real fire badge to get ideas. Use a red or gold glitter glue pen to add sparkle.

    • 5

Squeeze a line of hot glue on the back of the badge and press a pin clasp into the back. Allow it to dry. The badge is ready for wearing.
