How to Design a Card to Look Like a Lunch Box
Design an imaginative and creative card for a student that looks like a lunch box. By simply folding a sheet of colored card stock, you can create a card that flips up like the lid of a lunch box. Beneath the lid of the lunch box, write a short message that fits with your lunch box theme. Add a few embellishments to the front of the lunch box card, such as lunch box clasps and a handle.
Things You'll Need
- 1 sheet of card stock (8.5 by 11 inches)
- Ruler
- Bone folder
- Compass
- Pencil
- Scraps of card stock (in other colors)
- Glue dots
- Gel pens

1
Place the card stock onto a flat work surface with the short edges at the top and bottom.
-
2
Fold the top edge down 3.5 inches and crease this fold well. Use the bone folder to make the crease very sharp. This will be the lid of the lunch box.

3
Create the rounded shape of the top of the lunch box. Place a small dot at the center edge of the folded flap (4.25 inches from each side edge). Place the point of the compass at this center dot and align the pencil part of the compass at the side edge of the card. Draw a rounded shape from the edge of the folded flap up toward the fold of the card (to round the corner). Repeat on the other side to make a symmetrically round shape for the top of the lunch box.

4
Make the lunch box clasps by making two 1.5-inch squares out of a different color of card stock. Attach the clasps along the folded edge of the card stock, gluing the squares so that half of the squares are on the folded flap. Do not glue the bottom half of the squares because this would prevent you from opening the lunch box card.

5
Make the handle of the lunch box by cutting a 3-inch by 1-inch rectangle. Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise. Place the folded rectangle so the fold is on the left and the open edges are on the right. Draw a rounded corner at the open right edges. Draw a cut out on the bottom edge of the rectangle that starts approximately ½ inch from the right side edge, extends up ¼ inch and then extends all the way to the folded edge. Cut along both lines to create the handle shape. Glue the handle to the top of the lunch box in the center of the folded edge using glue dots.

6
Open the lunch box flap and write a short message inside the card using gel pens.
