How to Make a Marble Board Game

Save

Simple board games requiring only a simple set of pieces are often some of the most enjoyable games to play, and often boast relatively small learning curves. Marble solitaire is a board game which requires a player to use strategy to remove a set marbles from a board by jumping them with another marble on the board. While this seems an easy task at first, removing every marble is a difficult, but fun, task to achieve.

Things You'll Need

  • Wood board, 1-inch thick
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Jig saw
  • Drill, with 1/4-inch bit
  • Sand paper
  • Wood stain
  • 44 marbles
  • Draw a plus sign on the wood, with each arm of the cross being four inches long and four inches wide. This will make your cross one foot tall and one foot wide in total.

  • Make nine small marks on each arm of the cross in the form of a 3 by 3 square. Each mark should be one inch from its neighboring marks, and the outer marks of the square will be 1/2 inch from the outer edges of the cross or the center square of the cross.

  • Repeat Step 2 for the center square of the cross. The outer marks should all be a half inch from the lines separating the center from the arms of the cross, making them each one inch from the last marks of the outer squares.

  • Drill through the marks.

  • Cut out the cross using the jig saw.

  • Sand all sides of the cross until smooth and until all pencil marks are gone.

  • Stain the cross a color of your choosing, and leave to dry.

  • Place a marble in every hole except for the dead center hole in the middle of the center square.

  • Jump a marble over an adjacent marble and into an empty hole to remove a marble from the game.
