How to Convert FLV to SWF in Flash

Flash is a video and animation technology that is now owned by Adobe. The Adobe Flash software allows users to create Flash movies. These movies can be created in two categories. The first is a Flash Video file, which is appended with the file extension .flv. The second is a Flash animation, which is appended with the file extension .swf. FLV files are usually used in websites that stream videos. On the other hand, SWF files can be seen on website "splash pages." These are usually short animations. The Flash software allows you to convert an FLV file into a SWF file.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • Adobe Flash
  • FLV file
  • Open Adobe Flash on your computer and click the "Open" link on the left-hand column.

  • Select the FLV file you want to convert. You should be able to scroll through your computer's file system to find the file. Click the "Open" button.

  • Specify where your FLV file is located. There are two choices that are presented in this menu. If the file is on your local machine, click "Continue." If it is housed on a Web server, click the "Already deployed to server" option and specify the URL.

  • Click the "Embed video in SWF and play in timeline" option in the "Deployment" dialog box.

  • Click "Continue" and then "Finish" when the next two dialog boxes appear. Your video will now open in Flash and will be embedded in an SWF file.

  • Click "File > Export" and choose "Flash movie." Your file will now be saved as a SWF file.
