How to Unlock a Car With a Remote

A generation ago, kids sat transfixed by the television, watching a space-age family jet across the universe in their spaceship car. We aren't there quite yet, but modern technology does allow us to unlock our cars without having to put the key in the lock. Unfortunate scratches from a slip of the key, fumbling with the lock when your hands are full or trying to remember which key is which can all be forgotten if you know how to use a remote to unlock your car.

Instructions

1. Locate the "Unlock" button on the remote key. Depending on the model of car you have, the button may be labeled with the word "Unlock," or it might simply have an arrow pointing up (toward the loop that connects the remote to your keychain).

2. Push the "Unlock" button.

3. Open the car door using the handle, usually located just below the window.

Tips & Warnings

• Always wait until you are next to your car to unlock it. Unlocking it from a distance, across a parking lot, for example, could allow someone to enter your vehicle undetected.
