How to Replace the Odometer Bulb on a Hyundai Accent

The odometer bulb in your Hyundai Accent illuminates the odometer so that at night, you can see how many miles you have traveled. There are several bulbs in the instrument cluster that illuminate various parts of the gauge cluster. If the odometer bulb burns out, you can replace it yourself instead of taking it to the dealer. Replacing the bulb yourself will save money and will give you the satisfaction of personally fixing your vehicle.

Things You'll Need

  • Short Philips screwdriver
  • Ratchet
  • Sockets
  • New odometer bulb
  • Enter the Hyundai from the driver's side door.

  • Unscrew the plastic trim around the gauge cluster with a short Philips screwdriver.

  • Position the steering wheel at the lowest position available. To do this, push down on the release lever and let the wheel drop.

  • With moderate force, pull the plastic trim out of the dashboard.

  • With a ratchet, loosen the bolts securing the gauge cluster to the dash. Pull the cluster toward you.

  • Remove all connectors from the gauge cluster. To do this, push down on the tab of the connector and pull outward.

  • Pull the gauge cluster completely out of the dash.

  • Twist the odometer bulb out of the gauge cluster in a counterclockwise fashion.

  • Install the new odometer bulb by pushing it into the cluster and turning it clockwise.

  • Push all the connectors back into the gauge cluster and push the gauge cluster into the dash.

  • Tighten the two bolts that secure the gauge cluster to the dash.

  • Put the gauge cluster trim in place and tighten the screws with a Philips screwdriver.

Tips & Warnings

  • To ensure that you get the correct odometer bulb for your Hyundai Accent, remove the bulb from the cluster and take it to an auto parts store, where they can source the correct bulb for your application.
  • Wear safety glasses when working on your vehicle.
