A lot of people believe that once files are deleted from the recycle bin on a computer, the files are wiped out and lost. That is not completely true, as deleted files are cached in an area where they can be recovered. What is true is that eventually they will be written over, and in that case there is no hope for recovery. But that might take days or weeks to happen, depending on how often you use your computer. There are ways to retrieve deleted files from your emptied recycling bin that you may have thought were originally gone.

Find a file restoration program. These are available at department stores, office supply or computer store outlets, or even on the Internet.

Select a restoration program that best suits your needs and price range. Store bought programs will be boxed and packaged. But, depending upon your likes or dislikes, there are programs you can purchase and download online, or you may even find freeware programs that are available as no-cost alternatives.

Install the program per the packaging instructions, if you purchased it at a retail outlet. If you are downloading a program from the Internet, download the program onto your desktop. Follow the instructions that came with the program to recover your deleted files.
