How to Get Rid of Antivirus That Keeps Popping Up

Although most antivirus programs are extremely helpful when it comes to protecting your computer from unwanted virus and malware attacks, some software has a feature where a window pops up with either a question or a statement every time you attempt to log onto the Internet or access a new website. This quickly becomes extremely annoying when you are forced to close out the window every time. In this case, you can try to stop the pop-up windows or remove the program from your computer completely.

  • Open your Internet browser and wait for the antivirus window to pop up. Look for a small check box that says "Don't Remind Me Again" and check it. If there is no check box, proceed with the following steps. If a check box is present, you have successfully removed the pop-up windows and do not need to read further.

  • Open the antivirus software you have installed on your computer.

  • Select the "Options" tab on the window and wait for the a small pop-up window to appear. You can edit several different features about the program. Look for a pop-up window feature that you can turn off. Usually this comes in the form of a small check box.

  • Select "Start," "Control Panel" and open "Add or Remove Programs" (just "Programs" in Vista).

  • Scroll through the list of programs and select the antivirus program you want to remove. Click "Remove" and "Yes" and the computer removes the antivirus program from your computer.
