How to Change Spark Plug Wires on an S-10

The spark plug wires on your Chevy S10 should be checked and replaced every 30,000 miles. Replacement wires can be purchased from a Chevy dealership or from any auto parts store. When your S10's spark plug wires start to wear out, you'll notice a dramatic decrease in engine power and performance and a reduction in fuel economy. You may also notice that your exhaust is darker, and this is because not all of the fuel is being burned, or the fuel is being burned, but it isn't a complete burn.

Instructions

Choose one spark plug wire to work on. Remove only one plug wire at a time. Pull the spark plug wire off the top of the S10 engine by grabbing it with your fingers and pulling up while gently twisting it side to side. There is nothing holding them in place but friction.

Follow the wire from the engine side of the spark plug wire to the power distributor and pull the other end of the plug wire off the distributor.

Push the smaller plug end over the distributor electrode and push the larger plug end down into the plug well over the top of the spark plug.
