How to Convert Toast to DMG

Save

Toast is a popular CD/DVD burning program used on Mac computers as an alternative to the disk burning application that comes preinstalled on the system. If you create a CD or DVD using Toast, you can later use the Mac to create a DMG of the disk. A DMG is an image of the disk that, when stored, is a fraction of the size of all the content on the disk; however, you can use the DMG file to copy the content of the original disk onto a different disk.

  • Insert the disk you created with Toast into the disk drive of the Mac computer.

  • Open the "Disk Utility" application on the Mac. Select "Finder," "Mac HD," "Applications," "Utility," and finally "Disk Utility."

  • Click "New" followed by "Disk Image." On the left side of the screen you can see the disk you created in Toast listed.

  • Select the disk then click "Save." Disk Utility creates a DMG file of the disk and places it along the left side of the application. The next time you want to access the DMG file off the Toast disk, simply open up Disk Utility. The file can be found on the left side of the screen.
