How to Troubleshoot a GN Netcom Wireless Headset

Save

GN Netcom wireless headsets allow users to talk on their landline telephones hands free, allowing for multitasking while talking on the phone. The wireless headset has a base that connects to the phone and is used to charge the headset as well as make the connection between the phone and headset. Some common problems are experienced with GN Netcom wireless headsets, such as no dial tone, beeping in the headset, and the other person on the telephone having trouble hearing the user. You should troubleshoot to return the headset to normal operation.

No Dial Tone

  • Make sure all of the cords are connected correctly. Connect a telephone cord from the phone base to the phone input jack on the wireless headset base. Plug a second telephone cord from the wireless headset base to the telephone line jack on the wall. Finally, hook the phone handset cord to the handset cord input jack on the wireless headset base.

  • Ensure the wireless headset base power cord is plugged into a working electrical outlet. Test the outlet with another device if necessary.

  • Look to see if the "On-Line" indicator is lit on the wireless headset base unit. If it is off, reset it by placing the headset on the unit and removing it again. The light should now turn on.

  • Check that the battery in the wireless headset is charged. Place the headset in the base unit. If the "Link-Up" indicator light is flashing, the battery is charging. When it remains lit it is fully charged.

Beeping in the Headset

  • Determine how long the time is between beeps. The headset will beep every 10, 15 or 20 seconds, depending on the problem.

  • Move closer to the base if the beeping is every 10 seconds. You have moved out of range and will lose or experience problems with the connection.

  • Turn off the mute function if the beeping occurs every 15 seconds. The mute function is controlled by pressing the "Multifunction" button over the earpiece.

  • Recharge the headset by placing it on the base if the beep occurs every 20 seconds. The battery in the headset is nearly exhausted and needs recharging.

Other User Cannot Hear You

  • Turn off the mute function by pressing the "Multifunction" button over the earpiece.

  • Press and hold the "+" and "-" buttons on the headset earpiece until you hear a beep, indicating the microphone volume control is selected. Raise the microphone volume by pressing the "+" button.

  • Adjust the microphone boom so that it is as close to your mouth as possible.

  • Move closer to the base unit. You may have moved out of range, weakening the connection and making it difficult for the other person to hear you.

  • Place the wireless headset base away from the phone it is connected to and away from other electronic devices. Static electricity may interfere with the connection if the base is too close to other electronic devices.
