How to Set Up Windows Media Player to Be Always on Top

Sometimes, when watching a video in Windows Media Player, you might want to multitask by using other applications while the video plays in a corner. Typically, as soon as you click on another application, Windows Media Player gets hidden behind the active window. However, changing this setting is quick and easy. Simply follow the steps below.

Windows Media Player 12

  • In the Windows Media Player toolbar, click on "view" and then "now playing".

  • Right click on the video that is playing, and then select "Always show Now Playing on Top".

  • To temporarily disable this feature, simply minimize the video until you are ready to watch it again. (Tip: To minimize a video, click on the minus sign in the upper right hand corner of the video.)

Older versions of Windows Media Player

  • In the Windows Media Player toolbar, click on "Tools" and then "Options".

  • A box for customizable options will appear.

  • Under the tab called "player" you will see a setting called "Keep the Player on top of other Windows." To enable this feature, simply click the box next to this feature.

  • To disable this feature, follow steps 1 and 2, and then uncheck the box next to this feature.
