How to import MTS files to iMovie for editing

IMovie comes pre-installed on every new Mac computer.

MTS files are part of the AVCHD video format used by a number of digital camcorders. The iMovie video editing application that comes with Apple's iLife suite lets users import MTS files into the application directly from a camcorder, though you must specify that this is the type of file you want to import. Importing an MTS file into the iMovie application is just like importing any other movie file, requiring only a few simple steps.

Instructions

1. Connect the digital camcorder to the computer through the USB connection cable that came with the device. Double-click the "iMovie" application icon to launch it.

2. Click the "File" menu and select the "Import from Camera" option.

3. Click the "Camera" option and select "AVCHD" from the menu that appears.

4. Slide the "Automatic/Manual" slider to the "Manual" position and place a checkmark next to the videos that you want to import.

5. Click the "Import Checked" button to import the movies into the iMovie application.
