How to Import Pictures & Icons Into Keynote

Keynote, Apple’s answer to Microsoft PowerPoint, allows users to import pictures and icons into the program with the ease they have come to expect from the OS X operating system. A part of the iWork suite of applications, Keynote is an application geared toward presentations, both creating them and running them. The pre-set themes in Keynote can be customized by importing pictures and icons into the slides of a presentation.

  • Open “Applications > iWork > Keynote.” Select a template from the gallery or open an existing file.

  • Import a picture or icon file directly into Keynote by opening the folder in the Finder where the image file is located. Drag the file over to the open Keynote screen. A green plus sign will appear when you are holding it over the screen. Release the file and the image will appear on the screen. Resize the image as desired.

  • Import a picture or icon file to Keynote by dragging it from another open application and dropping it on the Keynote screen. Resize the image as desired.

  • Import a picture or icon into Keynote by copying and pasting from another program such as Preview, Acrobat or a Web browser. Select the image by highlighting it and pressing Command+C or by selecting “Copy” from the edit menu. In a Web browser, control-click the image and select “Copy Image.” Paste the image in Keynote by pressing Command+V or by selecting “Paste” from the edit menu. Resize the image as desired.
