How to Open Cmx Files

CMX files stands for Corel Metafile Exchange. They are image files associated with Corel programs. They are usually vector-based image files that comes along with Corel programs as a part of their Mega Gallery Clip Art. If you received one of these types of files from somewhere or discovered them on your computer, you may be interested in how you can open the files and work on them. It is possible to open .cmx files if you have the right software program installed on your computer.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Install one of these programs: CorelDraw Graphic Suite X4, Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 or Adobe Illustrator 8 (or earlier). Insert the installation disk, or double-click the installation file if you downloaded from the website. Follow the installation wizard to install the program.

  2. Step 2

    Right-click on the .cmx file and choose "Open with". From the list of programs, choose one of the programs above that you installed in the previous step.

  3. Step 3

    The .cmx file will open and be ready to use.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also open the .cmx file from inside the CoralDraw, Corel Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Illustrator program. Click "File" and then "Open." Navigate to where you have the .cmx file saved. Highlight the file and click "Open."
