How to Choose a Cell Phone for Seniors
As we age, our eyesight and manual dexterity can deteriorate. For many senior citizens, cell phones can be quite frustrating due to their small keypads and screens, not to mention an overwhelming array of technology options. There is no one cell phone that will best fit the needs of every senior, as some will be more comfortable with certain technology features, and some will require enhanced audio or visual capabilities, or prefer a simpler design. When choosing a cell phone for seniors, consider a few important features.

1
Decide on primary usage. When choosing a phone, decide if it will be used primarily in emergencies or to call family members and friends. Phone usage can impact types of phones available, as well as usage plan options.

2
Visit a cellular phone store to test several different phone models. Seniors that are having difficulty with sight or manual dexterity are not going to choose a phone that has a small screen, a tiny keypad or touchscreen options. Phones with larger buttons that are clearly marked and backlit are easier to use. Phones with speakerphones are also convenient for those who spend a long time on the phone with family members.

Consider payment plan options. If the cell phone will be used infrequently, a prepaid plan may suffice. If the phone will be used to frequently talk with grandchildren or other family members, consider adding a line onto an existing family plan.
