How to Change Jobs Within a Company

If you like the company that you are with but feel like your current position is boring or you are going nowhere, it might be time to look for another position within the company. It can be a lot easier to change jobs within a company because they know the dedication you already have and it takes less to train a current employee than someone who is brand-new to the company.

Instructions

    • 1

Talk to your immediate supervisor. Let him that know you like the company and want to stay but would like a change in roles. You want to let them know you want to go forward in the company and it is hard to make a move in jobs if you don't show the interest.

    • 2

Excel in your current position. You can do this by going the extra mile and picking up new tasks when you have the time. This will show off your capabilities and that you are willing to learn new things. Employers like to see that you want to succeed with their company.

    • 3

Learn about other positions that you might be interested in. You want to know what they do on a daily basis, so when the position does become available you can talk about how you would be a great fit for the job and can do the tasks that are brought on in that position.

    • 4

Watch for openings within the company. Most larger companies have a corporate intranet or website in which you can find out about current job postings. You will want to follow the procedures correctly on how internal candidates can apply for openings within the company.

    • 5

Prepare for an interview. Just because you are already in the company does not mean you do not have to prepare for the interview. Treat it as an interview for a brand-new company. Make sure you are even prepared for some of the tough questions that may arise and use your knowledge of the company and the position to your advantage.
