How to Buy Gelatin in Bulk

Gelatin, usually made from the protein found in the bones, skin and cartilage of animals, is one of the most diverse food ingredients on the market. Not only can it be used to make a variety of desserts such as classic sweet gelatin or cheesecakes, but it can also be in beef dishes and salads. Because gelatin is such a diverse ingredient, avid at-home cooks may want to buy it in bulk. Usually the best way to order bulk gelatin is online.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • Internet access
  • Decide how much gelatin you really want to buy. This probably will depend on how often you use it. If it’s important to not have gelatin from a specific animal--such as a cow--you will also want to keep this in mind when researching bulk gelatin vendors. Most bulk orders come in increments of one or five pounds, though this will vary according to what you order and from which company.

  • Visit the websites of businesses selling bulk gelatin. Just a sampling of possible choices include, NOW Foods and Amazon (see Resources section.)

  • Type “gelatin” or “bulk gelatin” into the search function of each company’s website.

  • Read carefully all product information that pops up on your computer screen.

  • Decide which bulk gelatin order would best meet your cooking preferences and financial needs. Always read shipping prices carefully; expensive shipment rates can spoil a potentially great bargain.

  • Place the order with your selected merchant. This requires you to provide your full name, shipping address, phone number and credit or debit card details. If you do not have a credit or debit card, you often still can order bulk gelatin online. However, you’ll need to call the merchant directly. Ask if you can mail a check or money order for your order.

  • Wait to receive your bulk gelatin. If you need to track its delivery status, your order confirmation e-mail usually has a tracking number and the company’s selected delivery carrier.
