1. The first step is to give yourself time. Clear out an entire day to go to tiny boutiques, chain stores, open markets, specialty stores, warehouses, outlets, and perfumeries. You want to be relaxed and have plenty of time to find the right scent.

2. The next step is to share details about your likes and dislikes with the person behind the fragrance counter. This will help them suggest perfumes. Ask them what scents (e.g. lavender, musk, etc.) are in their recommendations so you know what you like and do not like for the next place you try, if you do not find the perfume you love at this shop.

3. The next tip is to make sure that you try mixing. You may need to layer a couple scents together to get the aroma that matches you. Ask about layering and for layering recommendations.

4. Last but not least, before you buy, get samples of the top 3 perfumes (or top three layered combinations). Wear them for a few days to make sure you enjoy not just the initial scent but the way it smells over time.
