How to Spot a Fake Coach Diaper Bag

Many designer bags, such as those manufactured by Coach, Prada and Louis Vuitton, are easily counterfeited and sold in online auctions and by disreputable street vendors. Buyers are often fooled by the fakes, paying full price for a bag that was not created by the designer. A trained eye, however, can easily tell the difference between an authentic designer bag and a fake. Determining the legitimacy of any Coach bag (including baby bags) is easy if you know what to look for.

    Instructions

      • 1

Examine the "C" logo on the bag and verify that the Cs are not Gs or a similar letter. The Cs should be arranged in pairs.

      • 2

Examine the overall C logo pattern. The pattern should be reflected as a mirror image on either side of the center seam, with the Cs lining up perfectly at the seam. If the Cs look lopsided, disjointed or cut off, the bag is a fake.

      • 3

Look at the dust bag that comes with the Coach bag. An authentic dust bag is dark brown with a red drawstring, imprinted with "COACH EST. 1941" in white. Fake handbags will be accompanied by white or tan dust bags.

Check the interior for a leather authenticity tag. The tag should include the serial number, which should begin with "No." (the abbreviation for number). The words on the authenticity tag should be neatly arranged and not crooked. The paragraph above the serial number should be written in English and in all caps.

Contact Coach and verify that the last four digits of the serial number match the style of bag you intended to purchase.

      • 6

Check the tag attached to the bag. It should be a leather tag in the same color as the bag's trim, connected by a beaded chain. The brand name should be raised.

      • 7

Look at the zipper on the bag. It should be imprinted with the letters "YKK".

      • 8

Examine the overall look of the bag. It should be sturdy and not lop-sided or slouchy. The stitching should be perfect without any loose threads or thread knots.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Purchase your bag directly from Coach or an authorized Coach dealer to avoid buying a counterfeit. Be wary of street vendors or online auctions with prices that seem too good to be true.

    • If you have purchased a counterfeit, report it to Coach via e-mail (lawdepartment@coach.com) or through Coach's anti-counterfeiting hotline at (800) 396-1807.
