How to Reset a Hard Drive Password on a Dell Latitude

Turn your Latitude laptop on and press the "F2" key as it is booting up. Pressing "F2" will get you into the "Setup" menu.

Enter the current system password when prompted. Hold down the "Ctrl" and "Enter" keys to disable the current password. Confirm that the password status says "Not Enabled."

Restart the computer and press "F2" to get into setup. Highlight "System Password" and press the left or right arrow key.

Type your new system password and press "Enter." After the new password has been confirmed, exit the setup program and restart your computer.

This is how to *set* a password, not how to *reset* the password. It's nearly impossible to reset the password if you don't know the current password. I know from experience--some sort of virus or something has put a password on my dad's Latitude hard drive, and I've spent days trying to get it off for him!
