How to Make Small Envelopes
If it never occurred to you that you could make your own custom envelopes in any size and color, you might be amazed at the possibilities. Use beautifully patterned papers to create an assortment of envelopes to fit any correspondence need. For example, if you have a small card and need a small envelope, use the card as a template to make a small envelope that will fit your card precisely.

1
Place the paper with the colored or patterned side facing down. Determine how large you wish to make your envelope.
-
2
Draw a square or rectangle shape that will be the finished size of the envelope. For example, you might make a small envelope with dimensions of 2 1/2 inches by 4 inches.
-
-
3
Make the top and bottom flaps for the envelope. Make these flaps into isosceles triangle shapes with heights that are approximately 1 inch less than the height of the envelope. Draw these flaps.
-
4
Create the side flaps for the envelope. Make these flaps into isosceles triangle shapes with heights that are approximately ½ inch less than the width of the envelope. Draw these flaps.
-
5
Cut out the envelope shape you have drawn on the paper.
-
6
Fold the bottom flap of the envelope up and crease the fold well. Run the bone folder over the fold to make it crisp.
-
7
Bring both the left and right flaps in toward the center of the envelope and fold along the fold lines, creasing the folds well. Run the bone folder over these folds also to make them crisp.
-
8
Place a dab of glue onto the top point of the bottom flap and press the right flap over the bottom flap to glue these flaps in place. Place another dab of glue onto the right flap and press the left flap over the right flap to glue these flaps together.
-
9
Fold the top envelope flap down along the fold line and crease this fold well. Run the bone folder over the fold to make it crisp. Do not glue this flap in place until you are ready to use the envelope.

Tips & Warnings
A bone folder is a scrapbooking tool that makes folds sharp and crisp when you run it along the folds.
If you are making an envelope for a specific card, trace around the card and add 1/8 inch to all sides to make a custom envelope for your card.
