How to Enter HGTV's Win a Dream Home
Home and Garden Television (HGTV) began its "Dream Home" sweepstakes in 1997. The first sweepstakes home was a beautiful log cabin outside of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Since then, HGTV has given away 13 homes. For the 2010 sweepstakes, the "Dream Home" is a modern, Southwestern-style home in the San Pedro Overlook community outside of Sante Fe, New Mexico. Entries can be submitted starting Jan. 1, and the drawing will be held on (or around) March 2. The official winner will be notified "ambush style" on or around March 17.

Visit the special HGTV Dream Home Sweepstakes website to learn more about the home. The website includes a virtual video tour of the home, details about the building process, photos and descriptions of each room, and links to the entry page, officials rules and regulations, and a complete listing of the total winning prize.

Read the official rules and regulations. Note that you must be a legal of the United States or its territories and 21 years old to enter. You may submit an entry daily by using the official online entry form or by mailing a postcard with your hand-printed name, address, phone number including area code and date of birth to the following address: HGTV Dream Home Giveaway, PO Box 52628, Knoxville, TN 37950. Entries can be submitted daily starting 9 a.m. Eastern Time on Jan. 1 to 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Feb 19.

Visit the HGTV website each day when the contest begins to submit your online entry. To submit, complete the form on the website by providing your name, phone number and a valid e-mail address. You increase your chances of winning by submitting daily, so consider signing up for the daily reminder on the HGTV website.

Prepare your postcards ahead of time if you plan to mail your entries. You can still enter daily with mailed entries, but each postcard must be postmarked for unique days. To help with this, prepare a stack of 43 postcards with your entry information and the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway address on each. Make sure you include the correct postage! Keep these prepared cards in your car so that you can drop one off each day at your local postal office or in the mailbox.

Tips & Warnings
Apply online to have the most chances to enter; the post office is closed on Sundays, so mail in entries miss seven days worth of chances to enter. Only one entry per day counts, so don't try to send in both mail and online entries.
People who work for, are related to or live with someone who works for any of the official sponsors of the giveaway are ineligible. See the official rules for a full list of sponsors, but be aware that larger sponsors include not only HGTV but also General Motors, Proctor and Gamble, Ethan Allen, Bissell, Disney, and Ritway.
