How to Make Internet Explorer Web Pages Open in New Tabs

To make browsing the web easier, Internet Explorer incorporated tabbed browsing into the program. With tabbed browsing, the user can open multiple web pages in one browser window, instead of opening multiple windows, which can clutter the taskbar and hinder switching between different websites. There are several options for opening a new tab in Internet Explorer.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure that you have the most recent version of Internet Explorer (8).

    • 2

Hover your mouse over the link you want to open in a new tab.

    • 3

Right click the link and choose "Open in a New Tab" or click the link with the center scroll wheel, if your mouse has one. A new tab will open next to the tab that is farthest right on the tab bar. The page the link is located on will remain the active tab in your browser.

    • 4

Click on the tab of the link you opened to view the web page.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also open a link to a new tab by holding down CTRL and clicking the left mouse button. You can open a blank new tab by pressing CTRL-T.
