How to Troubleshoot Bottled Water Coolers
Bottled water coolers are convenient and offer fresh-tasting liquid refreshment that is often free from chlorine and other additives found in normal tap water. Many companies offer free delivery of their bottled water both for home and office use. You may purchase your own unit from an authorized dealer if you prefer to save money on a rental unit and bottled water costs. Check to make sure your electrical cord is plugged in if your cold water tap is dispensing warm water or adjust the thermostat on the back of the unit, if needed. Warm water may also be caused by excessive use of the unit; allow the water to re-chill for 15 minutes before attempting to dispense more water.

Check your water compressor to make sure it is running if your water is still warm and not resolved by the actions taken in Step 1. Examine the interior cooler for signs of oil or leakage, as this may indicate a gas leak within the sealed compressor system and should be repaired by an authorized dealer.

Troubleshoot water leaks by examining the drip tray---if overfull, empty it. Examine the bottle for pinhole leaks or cracks and remove it from the dispenser if damaged; replace with a fresh bottle or call your courier for a free replacement.

Examine a leaking tap by first checking to see if the tap is screwed tightly in place; twist gently to the right to tighten. If this does not resolve the problem, you may have a washer or spring problem in the tap itself; call your repairman or do not attempt to resolve yourself until you have thoroughly drained the unit.

Resolve water flow problems from the tap(s) by employing the help of a partner to test for an air blockage. Place a cup under each water tap and have your partner lift the bottle and replace it while you hold the taps in an open position; repeat several times, if needed.

Examine the back of the unit to see if the switched is turned in the "On" position if your hot water tap is not dispenser hot water. Other causes of dysfunction may be a defective hot tank element, a faulty hot water thermostat or a loose connection in your electrical system.

Check to see if there are any loose refrigerant lines vibrating against the interior of the unit and secure them if you hear excessive noise from the unit. Examine your compressor mountings to ensure they are tight; if the noise is coming from within the compressor itself, you will need to replace it.

Unpleasant smells emanating from your unit may be caused by a dirty drip tray or a need to for the unit to be cleaned internally.
Funny or odd-tasting water may be due to a recent cleaning of the unit; allow plenty of fresh water to run through the taps before drinking from your cooler.
Green bottled water can be caused by sunlight penetrating the bottle---do not drink it. Remove the bottle and replace it with a fresh one after purchasing a vinyl shaded cover for your cooler.
