How to Make a Doll That Looks Just Like You
Making a one of a kind doll that looks like you is a fun craft project for a rainy day. Popular vinyl dolls like Barbie and Tyler are good choices for base dolls because they come in a spectrum of skin colors, hair colors and hair styles. If you have short black curls or waist length red-hair, there is a vinyl doll for you. The popular vinyl dolls come in sizes ranging from 10 inches to 14 inches and have a wide variety and outfits available. They are also easy to paint. Find a customizable doll with your hairstyle and skin tone by searching online auction sites, Craigslist, or thrift stores.

1
Paint the eyebrows with a paint that closely matches your eyebrow color. Put as little paint on the brush as possible and use the painted on eyebrow as a guideline. The painted on eyebrows are usually thin, but if they are thicker than your natural brows, remove part of them with a Q-Tip dipped in acrylic nail varnish remover.

Paint your doll's irises in your eye color using a miniature paintbrush. Choose an acrylic paint that is close to your eye color. Dab the paint on, keeping inside the original iris. When the paint has dried, dab a small circle of black paint for the pupil and add a white dot (this adds a fake "reflection" and gives the eye a more natural appearance). Dry for one hour. Add a coat of clear acrylic varnish and allow to dry.

Add beauty spots, freckles and moles by dipping the tip of the paintbrush into brown or black acrylic paint and dotting onto the skin.

Look on online auctions, at doll stores, or other doll clothing outlets for an outfit that matches your style. Don't forget shoes, a purse, or a hat if you wear one.

Tips & Warnings
A magnifying glass will reduce eye strain when painting dolls.
Use pipe cleaners as rollers to set hair, then blow dry for five minutes on a medium heat setting.
Pin hats, earrings, hair bows, and other head accessories on with dressmaking pins. The pins will push through the soft vinyl of the doll and hold the accessory in place.
Vinyl dolls (and their hair) can melt easily. Keep any blow dryer on a low heat setting to avoid ruining your doll.
