How to Make Cardamom and Clove Mouthwash

Cardamom and clove mouthwash is a simple, homemade alternative to the expensive mouthwashes that line store shelves.   • 2 cups distilled water
  • 2 tbsp. whole cloves
  • 1/8 tsp. ground cardamom
  • Clean plastic funnel
  • Glass bottle with tight-fitting lid

      Pour the water into a medium saucepan and bring to a boil.

      Place the cloves and ground cardamom in a heat-resistant mixing bowl, and pour the boiling water over them. Let the mixture steep until the water has cooled to room temperature.

      Strain the mixture through a colander, reserving the water in a small saucepan or mixing bowl. Discard the cloves.

      Using a clean plastic funnel, transfer the cardamom and clove mouthwash to a glass bottle with a tight-fitting lid.

Tips & Warnings

  • To use, rinse your mouth with one tablespoon of the cardamom and clove mouthwash for about 30 seconds. Rinse with cool water after using.

  • Avoid mixing or storing any type of homemade body care product or mouthwash in an aluminum or copper container, as these metals tend to alter the scent and taste of the final product.
