How to Get a Movie to Play on a Nano iPod
Depending on the storage capacity of your iPod Nano, the device can hold anywhere from one to eight full-length feature films in addition to a library of music and photos. The trick to getting a movie onto the device itself is to convert it to the proper format. You can use freeware available on the Internet to rip a movie from a standard DVD that you own and convert it into an iPod-friendly format to play on your Nano.

1
Download codec-converting freeware. The iPod Nano (like all iPods) reads video in Mpeg-4 format. When selecting a converting program, find one that converts a standard DVD (which is in Mpeg-2 format) directly to MP4. This will save time and the aggravation of converting more than once.
-
2
Insert a DVD into your computer's DVD drive. Choose the movie you wish to convert and insert it into the DVD reader.

3
Open the software and begin converting the movie. Each conversion program has its own process, but usually you will see a Start or Open function on the main menu. Take note of where the output file (the converted file) is saved on your computer so you can find it easily.

4
Open iTunes and click on the "File" menu and then choose "Add a File to Library." Find the converted movie file and click on it to begin importing it into iTunes.
-
5
Add the movie to your iPod. After you import the movie file into iTunes, simply highlight the "Movies" section of your library and drag-and-drop the movie into your iPod. The movie is now ready to play on your Nano.
