How to Know When the Sony Reader Is Fully Charged

When Sony introduced their eReader to the marketplace in 2006, it got a lot of attention. It's difficult to find a flaw in a device that allows you to carry hundreds of books in a small bag or purse and contains technology that makes the text readable even in bright sunlight. If you also consider that eReader technology allows the purchase of books from the comfort of your home, the airport, a hotel room or anywhere an Internet connection is available, then the device quickly becomes an inveterate reader's ideal equipment. When using your eReader, first make sure it is fully charged.

Plug the AC adaptor into the reader and an electrical socket, or plug the USB cord provided with the reader into the reader and your computer. Either method will charge the unit, but if you are charging the unit using your laptop, make sure your laptop is plugged into a power supply or it will quickly drain your battery.

Look at the indicator light on the reader. Depending on your version of the reader, the indicator light may be on the side or the bottom of the reader. The light will flash orange when connecting to your computer by USB cord then turn red to indicate it is charging.

Check the indicator light periodically. When the unit is fully charged, the light will go off. Charging may take a couple of hours depending on how low the battery power was when you started the process. Charging the unit by USB will usually take longer than charging the unit using the AC adaptor.
