How to Craft With Old Converse Shoes
Some people get attached to their favorite pair of Converse shoes and don't want to part with them, even when they can no longer wear them. Instead of sitting in the back of a closet, old Converse shoes can continue to make a different kind of fashion statement in your home or garden. They lend themselves well to a funky herb garden or planter project. Place them on your porch steps, on an indoor window sill or in your flower garden to add a punch of your own personality and style.
Things You'll Need

1
Fill the toe portion of the shoe with rocks or marbles to help weigh it down and support the weight of a growing plant. Aim the shoe's toe toward the ground and only fill to the top of the tube portion of the shoe that houses the toes and top of the foot. Lean the shoe against a wall or other heavy object, toes down, to keep the rocks in place.

2
Run a bead of hot glue around the bottom of a red, plastic cup and quickly press it inside the shoe, gluing it to the bottom. You can now place the shoe flat on the ground in its natural position, as the cup will help hold the rocks in place.

3
Pour about an inch of rocks or gravel into the plastic cup. This will provide drainage for your plants.
-
4
Use your craft or utility knife to poke six to eight holes in the bottom of the second cup. Fill this cup with soil and plants or seeds. Place this cup inside the other cup so that it rests on top of the inch of gravel or marbles.
-
5
Fill the cup containing holes with moist potting soil. You can take it out to do this or you can leave it in the shoe planter. Add seeds or mini plants and water until the soil is damp but not wet.
