How to Reset My Taskbar in Windows XP
The windows taskbar is a flexible tool that can be moved around to suit the user's preference. You have the option of making it disappear until the mouse scrolls over it, and you can add quick launch buttons for faster access to regularly used programs. Trying to figure out the default setting can be frustrating, but there are ways to revert back to a default setting and keep that position locked. A few tweaks here and there, and you should be back to normal.

1
To instantly and automatically revert back to a default setting, download the kellys-korner taskbar program (see resources). Choose the option to "Save As."
-
2
Locate the file and double-click to run the program. It will ask you if you want to run the script. Choose "Yes." It will then automatically run the program and readjust your taskbar settings to default.

If you are looking to make changes without using a third party program, move your mouse to the taskbar location and right-click. Choose "Properties" under the pop-up menu. Under this menu, you can select any preferred settings such as "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows."

4
To move the taskbar back to its default location at the bottom of the screen, click the taskbar with the left mouse button and drag it down to the bottom of the screen. If it will not drag, the taskbar is locked in place. Right-click on the taskbar and then un-select the "Lock Taskbar" option. Once you have dragged the taskbar into place, you can relock it so it will not move again.

If the taskbar has disappeared or is hidden and you can't find it, go to the start menu and select "Run," then type "Taskbar" and press "Enter." This will take you to the taskbar settings menu.
