How to Create Email Graphics
Email graphics are an effective way of sending enhanced messages to your recipients because they work in conjunction with your text to visually present your topic such as a travel newsletter or a product announcement. Although these graphics are useful, you want to make sure to design them so that they are optimized for an email message and well received. Using an image editor, you can create your own email graphics following a couple of best practices to ensure they are delivered successfully.

1
Launch an image editor application, such as Fireworks or Photoshop, and create a new file.
-
2
Specify the image dimensions for your canvas size by typing a width of no more than 400 pixels and a height of no more than 300 pixels. A typical monitor size (resolution) is 800 x 600 pixels, so if you create a graphic that is half this size, you ensure that your email recipient can successfully see these images.

3
Design your graphic by using your editor's toolbar to add the shape(s), color(s) and text of your choice. Alternately, you can insert a digital image to enhance it by using the "import" feature, or by following your editor's method for working with digital images.
-
4
Remove any extra space around your graphic that you are not making use of by using the "crop" tool to select just the actual image and then press the "Return" or "Enter" key on your keyboard. Cropping your image allows you to keep the file size down.
-
5
Save your graphic as a "GIF," "PNG" or "JPG." The "GIF" and "PNG" formats are ideal for most graphics, but use a "JPG" if your image is an actual photo so that you can preserve the quality better. Further, set the quality to "medium" or "better" (between 50 percent and 80 percent) to make sure the file size does not go above 1 megabyte, which is difficult to view on emails.
