How to Make Mounds Candy Bars
Have you ever wished that you could make your favorite candy bar at home? For those of you that love Mounds, there is an easy recipe that uses some unexpected ingredients that you can use to make this delicious coconut candy. You can make them for yourself to eat when you want a fix of sugar without running off to the store, or you can serve them at a party as a sweet treat for your guests. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 4 cups of coconut
- 4 ¾ cups of powdered sugar
- 4 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate
- 6 ounces of chocolate bits
- ¾ cup of mashed potatoes
- 1 teaspoon of almond or vanilla extract
- Mixing bowl
- Large spoon
- Wax paper
- Cookie sheet
- Small saucepan
- Small tongs

Mix 3/4 cup of potatoes, 4 cups of coconut, 4 3/4 cups of powdered sugar, and a teaspoon of either almond or vanilla extract in a mixing bowl.

Roll the mixture into balls of your desired size and place them on a cookie sheet covered with wax paper. Because you aren't going to be baking these candies, the size doesn't matter, even though bite size is great size for party treats.

Place the cookie sheet with the balls on it into the refrigerator and keep them there for between a half-hour and an hour.

Melt 4 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate and 6 ounces of chocolate bits in the sauce pan on your stovetop with the dial for the burner turned to the lowest possible heat.

Dip the balls into the melted chocolate by holding them with a pair of tongs. In order to keep the chocolate melted throughout the dipping process you can keep the pan in a sink of hot water.

Place the balls back onto the wax paper after you dip them.

Keep the candies in the refrigerator until the chocolate forms a hard shell.
