How to Repair a Sony 55 Inch TV

Instructions

  1. Problems With Sound

    • 1

Adjust speaker volume on the television and/or cable or satellite set-top box.

    • 2

Check your remote and the "Mute" button on the television control panel to ensure it is not set to "On."

    • 3

Set the audio protocol of the television to "Main" or "Stereo." To access the audio settings, press "Display" on the remote to access the set up screen, and press the "Forward" button until you reach the audio settings menu.

    Problems With Picture

    • 4

Turn on another television to make sure poor picture quality is not originating from your cable service.

    • 5

Turn off fluorescent lights, vacuum cleaners and microwaves. Signal interference coming from electrical appliances can cause poor picture quality. If one or more is running, see if the problem resolves itself by turning the appliance off.

    • 6

Set the screen to "Wide Mode" to correct the appearance of black bars on the side of the picture. A television program or movie recorded in a smaller aspect ratio (size) than your television offers will require resetting to view correctly.

    • 7

Upgrade cable connector cords. The type of cable you use to connect auxiliary equipment like a cable set top box or DVD player can affect picture quality. Check your owner manual for required cable types and purchase a high quality replacement cable (See Resources 2).

    • 8

Set your television is to TV mode. A "No Signal" message will appear on your screen if the setting is set to "Video" to view a DVD and not set back. Access this button either from your remote or from the control panel on your television.

    Problems With Power

    • 9

Remove and replace the batteries on your remote control.

    • 10

Unplug the TV and plug it into a different outlet to determine if the problem is a faulty outlet.

    • 11

Access the sleep function using the buttons on your remote control or from the main menu in the on screen set up to see if the "Sleep Timer" function is set. A television that turns off in the middle of a program may be set to sleep mode.

    • 12

Recycle the power unit by unplugging the television for approximately 30 seconds and then plugging it in again. If this is not effective, you may need professional assistance.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you cannot diagnose the problem or if these repair techniques do not work, either contact Sony or take your television in for professional repair.
