How to Reset a Blackberry Curve

Your BlackBerry Curve holds so much of your user data that is often considered an extension of your computer. Smart phones like the BlackBerry Curve often hold thousands of contacts, calendar entries and messages. If you want to return your BlackBerry Curve to factory settings and remove all of your data from it, you can perform a master reset to your handset. There are several ways to do this, but the most popular is to use the menu setting right inside the handset.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your BlackBerry Curve. Press the BlackBerry key while on the main menu to navigate to the applications menu.

    • 2

Scroll down until you see the wrench icon. Click on "Options" with the trackball. Under Options, use the trackball to click on "Security Options." Next, go to "General Settings."

    • 3

Press the BlackBerry key while on the General Settings menu. A side menu will appear. Choose "Wipe Handheld," the third option down. Click "Continue" on the first confirmation screen. The final confirmation screen will ask you to type "BlackBerry" into the handset. This prevents an accidental master reset. Once you click enter on that screen, you have master reset your BlackBerry Curve.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you only want to restart your BlackBerry Curve, you don't need a Master reset. Instead, you should soft reset your handset. Turn it over and remove the battery panel by pressing down on the button near the bottom of the back panel. Then push the battery panel up and off. Remove the battery and then reinsert it. Turn the BlackBerry Curve back on to finish the soft reset.

  • A master reset of your BlackBerry Curve will delete any user data from your handset. To save this information, perform a backup using the BlackBerry desktop manager on your computer. If you change your mind after the master reset, you will have the option to restore your user data to your BlackBerry Curve.
