How to Connect an Acer Laptop to the Internet

These days most computers have built-in Internet capability, and Acer computers are no exception. Most Acer models made over the last few years come equipped with a wireless card that lets you surf the Internet without cables. For the less tech-savvy Acer owners out there, don't worry, connecting your Acer to the Internet is a simple process that takes no more than a minute. Even if you've never used an Acer before, you'll find the process quick and easy.

Connecting to the Internet

1. Plug your wireless Internet router (available at any electronics store) into an open power source in your home and turn it on. If your Acer is an older model that does not have wireless capability, purchase a modem and run an Ethernet cable from your Acer's USB (Universal Serial Bus) port to the modem, establishing an Internet connection.

2. Click the "Start" tab on the main menu and select "All Connections."

3. Click "Wireless Portion" and then "Set to IP Properties." Your computer will now automatically detect your IP (Internet provider) address. Set to "Enable."

4. Log in to the router and type in the user name and password provided in the router's documentation and confirm.

5. Open your Web browser and verify that the Internet is working.
