How to Unbind Spiral Binding

Notebooks come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with different types of bindings. A common binding for a notebook is a spiral binding. This is a commonly used binding because it allows the notebook to open fully and lay flat on a table for easy access to both pages. Once the binding is not needed, it is easy to unbind a spiral binding.

Instructions

    • 1

Using a pair of needle nose pliers, hold the end of the wire metal spiral binding on the top end of the notebook, and straighten the end.

    • 2

Hold the straight end of the piece of metal and cut off the straight portion of the metal wire with a pair of wire cutters.

    • 3

Determine the direction in which the spiral binding runs through the bound notebook.

    • 4

Hold the wire at the bottom end of the notebook and begin to twist the metal wire in the opposite direction it runs through the notebook.

    • 5

Continue twisting the wire until the entire piece has been removed from the notebook.

Tips & Warnings
