How to Sell Season Tickets for Sports Teams
Tickets are the lifeblood of all sports teams. Selling tickets gets fans into the games, creating revenue and excitement. This revenue can be used to further the success of the team, both on and away from the playing field. Many teams are turning to professional sales staff, or training their staff in sales to promote the team. This holds just as true for an NFL franchise, some of whom employ ticket sales staff more than 20 strong, as it is for college or amateur teams, who can train a handful of staff in sales techniques in order to promote the franchise.
Season tickets are always the preferred method of selling tickets. They create revenue and guarantee attendance over a sustained period of time. They also help develop a longstanding fan base.

1
Provide an advantage to buying a season ticket. A season-ticket holder should not feel as if he is on level footing with a customer who walks up and buys an individual ticket. To effectively sell season tickets, the season-ticket holder should feel that not only is he paying a discounted price, but he is more valued. To achieve this, teams can send out a special newsletter, hold a "meet the team" event or give gifts and perks to season-ticket holders.

2
Create an urgency to buy a season ticket. The idea of season tickets is that fans are attending from Day One; you are trying to fight against the mentality that there is no hurry when the ticket is bought. This is easily done if your arena will be sold out at some point. There are other ways to achieve this, too: give discounts before a certain date, sell out the prime seating areas first or have a loyalty scheme in place where fans are rewarded for the number of games they attend.

3
Commit to a quality sales staff. Tickets do not sell themselves, and a community will not be excited about a sports team unless it can effectively let the public know about its product. Psychology, voice tone and knowledge of the product are all intrinsic elements of selling tickets, and qualified sales staff will connect better with your market.
