How to Create a Super Hero Character

Creating a super hero character is a fun, imaginative project for kids or adults. You might want to create a super hero character to include in your own comic strip or short story, or you might simply want to draw a picture or poster of your character. Your super hero might even be friends with more well-known super heroes, such Spiderman or Cat Woman.

    • 1

Decide what your super hero's special power will be. You've probably contemplated what super power you would choose for yourself; now is your opportunity to create a character with that power. You can give your character the power to fly, be invisible, hear through walls, talk to animals, swim underwater, teleport and much more.

    • 2

Design the character's insignia. Most super heroes have an instantly recognizable symbol, sign or badge that they wear across the front of their costume. Design a symbol that relates to the character's super power; for example, if the character can talk to animals, perhaps draw several animals crowded around a miniature version of your character. Or try simply using a strong shape such as a thunderbolt or star. For a bolder effect, images on the insignia can be silhouetted against a brightly colored background.

    • 3

Design the rest of the character's outfit. You should use bright, contrasting colors or, if you want your character to have a more somber look, all black. Silver, gold and white are good super hero colors as well. If your character has the power to swim underwater with gills or without having to hold his breath, consider designing a costume with aquatic colors, such as blue, turquoise and green. Don't forget to give your super hero a cape or a mask for a classic look.

    • 4

Create your super hero's back-story. Where does she come from? What was her childhood like? And how did she get her superpowers---was she born with them or is there another explanation for them? What are her weaknesses and who are her enemies? What quirky personality traits or interests does she have? Does she fight for a particular cause, such as justice or the environment?

Incorporate your character into comic strips, posters or stories. Have fun developing your character even more as you work on these projects.
