Coconut oil in my opinion is one the those miracle foods that do a little of everything. Polynesian women have used it for years as a hair and skin treatment (most likely a contributing factor in why they have such beautiful lustrous hair).

Coconut oil has many beneficial uses. It can be used as a healthier alternative to cooking oil, used on toast, in a smoothie, etc...
Coconut oil is a great antioxident, has no sataurated fats and is helpful in removing candida and also aids in weight loss.

Coconut becomes stable at about 73 degrees and can easily melt in the palm of your which makes for a great hair and body conditioner. If you are new to coconut oil try the following:

Pour a few tablespoons in to a warm bath and soak for 20 minutes, the oil will cling to your skin and absorb it leaving your skin silky soft. I also use it for an after bath or after shower moisturizer instead of lotion. Coconut oil is all natural with no harsh chemicals, preservatives or added water.

Using it in my hair is my favorite use for coconut oil. If you are anything like me, blow-drying, flat ironing and tying your hair up takes a lot out of it and looking pretty frazzled. Coconut oil puts all that natural protein and oils back into my hair leaving it bouncy, shiny and soft.

Conditioners just coat your hair shaft giving you the illusion of healthy hair. Coconut oil will actually penetrate the shaft depositing proteins and essential oils back into your hair. Shampooing strips your hair natural oils leaving it vulnerable to damage, then you blow-dry, flat iron etc... you get the picture.

The easiest way to get the most benefits for your hair is to saturate your hair either when it is dry or slightly damp. Gently comb through and wrap your head with a plastic bag or a shower cap (I like to pull a beanie on after the shower cap for extra heat). Wear the oil to bed and shampoo out in the morning. Your hair will feel in better condition after one treatment.

Tips & Warnings

  • Treat your hair once a week (less or more depending on your hair).

  • Cover your clothes when saturating your hair to protect from oil stains.

  • If regular coconut oil seems too heavy for your hair, try extra virgin coconut oil.

  • Rinse your tub after using coconut oil, you do not want to slip next time you take a shower.
