Making a Frosty the Snowman costume can be easy.

A Frosty the Snowman costume can be worn at Halloween or to a Christmas party. Making one by hand at home can be a cost-effective alternative to purchasing a snowman costume from a shop, where similar items can be pricey. With some basic materials and a bit of know-how, even novice sewers can put together a simple snowman costume that works for either adults or kids.

Step 1

Measure the height, head and chest of the person who will wear the costume. This will determine how much fabric you will need. About 5 feet of fabric will typically work for an adult, and 4 feet will work for most older children. Add 2 to 3 inches to your measurements to account for the seam allowance.

Step 2

Fold a piece of white fleece in half lengthwise so you now have two layers of fabric. Draw a snowman shape onto the fleece with a pencil using your measurements. Make one large circle on the bottom, with a medium-size circle in the middle for the chest, and one small circle on top for the head. Cut out the shape. You should now have two identical fabric panels.

Step 3

Cut 1-inch deep notches along each circle's curved edges every 6 inches so that it retains its circular shape when you sew the front and back together.

Step 4

Sew the two pieces together on a sewing machine. Leave the bottom open for the feet and leave a 6-inch slit open at either side of the top of the middle circle. These will act as arm holes. Turn the piece inside out so the rough edges of the seams are on the inside, and there is a clean seam line on the outside.

Step 5

Iron the finished seams so that the edges of the costume are sharp and crisp.

Step 6

Cut out three small circles from a piece of black felt. Attach them in a vertical line to the middle of the Frosty suit with fabric glue to look like coal buttons.

Step 7

Cut an oval out of the top circle of the costume that will act as the face hole to let the costume wearer see out.

Tip

Carry a corn-cob pipe and top hat to complete the look.

Warning

Make sure seams are sewn tightly to prevent tears.
