How to Embed Images in Gmail

Attaching images to email is fine but sometimes you just want to have the picture embedded in the text. For a long time this wasn't possible in Gmail, but now a setting makes it very easy to insert a picture anywhere in the body of your message.

Instructions

    • 1

Log into your Gmail account and click Settings at the top right of the page. A settings page will open with a row of tabs across the top of the settings box. Click the Labs tab.

    • 2

Scroll down the page to find the Inserting Images setting. Toggle it to Enable. Click "Save Changes."

    • 3

Click the point in an email message where you want an image to appear. Then click the Insert Image icon in the toolbar: it looks like a tiny painting of mountains.

    • 4

Browse to the picture you want to add, then select it to place it at that point in your email.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you're in rich formatting mode, or the Insert Image icon won't show up.

  • To protect from spammers, Gmail doesn't display images in messages by default. If you are sending this message to another Gmail user, she will have to click Display Images Below or Always Display Images From [Your Name] to see the pictures you embed.
